Mission Statements: The Samaritan Ministries consist of the Bereavement, Friendly Visitor, and Blood Pressure Screening ministries that are provided by volunteers in the church.
The loss of a loved one can hurt deeply. The mission of the Bereavement Ministry is to provide spiritual and emotional support and comfort to individuals and their relatives who experience the death of a loved one. We strive to comfort and encourage those who are confined to their homes, hospitals and other health-care facilities due to illness or other medical conditions.
The Friendly Visitor program provides “social visits” by a volunteer to home bound seniors. The purpose of this program is to alleviate the loneliness and isolation of seniors. Also, the visitor provides information about community resources available to seniors to help retain their independence as long as they choose.
Friendly Visitors are volunteers who visit with a home bound senior citizen who would like some additional companionship. The Visitor volunteers spend an hour a week visiting in the senior’s home, talking about family, friends, current events, like interests, etc. Sometimes the volunteers contact the senior they visit daily over the telephone to check on the senior’s well being especially if they are sick or grieving and to chat for a few minutes. The visits and calls are arranged at a time that is convenient for both the senior and the volunteer. In both cases, true friendships develop that can span years.
Blood Pressure screenings are performed at the monthly Fellowship Sundays on the first Sunday of the month after the 9:00am and 10:30am Masses.
