The St. Francis Thrift Shop of Hilton Head Island, SC distributed its annual grants to 33 local charities on Tuesday, June 19th. Thirty Three Lowcountry non-profit organizations received donation checks in a ceremony held at the Thrift Shop.
The Grant Recipients include:
Steve Maglione, Executive Director of Programs for Exceptional People (PEP), one of St. Francis Thrift Shop grant recipients, said, "St. Francis has been a wonderful partner of PEP for many, many, many years. Not only have we been the recipient of these grants, but we do employment and volunteer opportunities for our folks who have intellectual disabilities, and this has always been a safe place where they can come and work and learn some skills and develop relationships with other people."
"The generosity of our citizens and especially organizations like St. Francis are what allows us to continue to provide the services that we do every day." added Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island Director, Kim Likens.
"This is a wonderful expression of this community's generosity," said St. Francis Thrift Shop grants committee chair, Eileen Fitzgerald.
St. Francis Thrift Shop of Hilton Head Island always welcomes new volunteers to share their talents and generosity to the Lowcountry community.
Founded in 1999, the St. Francis Thrift Shop is a model of outreach ministry benefitting local charities and St. Francis School. The Thrift Shop sells gently used clothing, furniture, and other items at bargain prices, and also give clothing and housewares, all donated by generous Hilton Head Island and Bluffton residents, to the needy at no cost.
In May of 2015, the Thrift Shop added an expansive new furniture gallery. This expansion combined with a consistent marketing/advertising campaign, have helped increase sales significantly. However, success depends almost entirely on the support of the local area and the hard work and dedication of many volunteers.
